Dear President Carter,
Your plan to conserve energy will help the country a lot. The inflation and oil prices are causing higher prices of everyday items. People are being asked to drive less, which reduces their freedom, but America has to pay the price to get the oil needed to drive. The Arab countries America is getting oil from is raising prices since less is being bought, but we need to pay the prices since we have no other way to get oil. The country is desperate for other energy products, so the Department of Energy is a good idea for our country. The country should support this program to improve economy problems and gain alternate energy in America.

Where Is The Love?
Where Is The Love?
By: Black Eyed Peas
What's wrong with the world, mama?
People livin' like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world's addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring the trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists hear livin'
In the U.S.A., the big C.I.A.
The bloods and the crips and the K.K.K.
But, if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah
Badness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
Man you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all
(Chorus)
People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek
Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questioning
Where is the Love?
It just ain't the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane
If love and peace are so strong
Why are there peaces of love that don't belong?
Nations droppin' bombs
Chemical gases fillin' lungs of little ones
With the ongoing suffering as the youth die young
So, ask yourself is the lovin' really gone?
So, I could ask myself really what is goin' wrong?
In this world that we livin' in people keep on givin'
Makin' wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin' each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin' on but the reason's undercover
The truth is kept secret, it's swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where's the love y'all?
(I don't know)
Where's the truth y'all?
(I don't know)
Where's the love y'all
(Chorus)
I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I'm gettin' older, y'all people get colder
Most of us only care about money makin'
Selfishness got us followin' the wrong direction
Wrong information shown by the media
Negative images in the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what they see in the cinema
What happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness and equality
Instead of spreading love we're spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' under
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' down
There's no wonder why sometimes I'm feelin' under
Gotta keep faith alive til love is found
And ask yourself
Where is the love?
We only got
(One world, one world)
That's all we got
(One world, one world)
And and somethings wrong with it
Somethings wrong with it
Somethings wrong with the world yeah
We only got
(one world, one world)
That's all we got
"Where is the Love" by Black Eyed Peas points out the protest against war. People are fighting for unidentified reasons and the love that once had been strong has disappeared. For example, "A war is going on but the reason's undercover" implies the fact that world peace diminished as people were fighting for unnecassary reasons. The theme of the song involves spreading love around the world and striving for peace, rather than fighting with violence resulting in pain. Many people protested against war because of the act of violence, draft, and a decrease in world peace.

Men and Women Equality

Today, in 2010, I think that men and women are very close to being equal. Women now get equal education and rights to men. Women are known to be as smart and studious as men and the constitution states that equality shall remain between different sexes. Women get equal voting rights and many job opportunities. Now, there are not strikes nor women movement groups occurring such as during the Women's Movement. Women get equally treated and earn the same amount of money or respect as a man would.
Women may often get sterotyped but not as much in 2010. An image of a stay at home mom still occurs, to take care of the children, cook and clean. It is very common for the woman to do these necessities in order to stabilize housing, and women still stay at home today. Although, many women now have jobs during the day that may easily be obtained and schooling to improve education with more advanced degrees. Another example of a sterotypical situation would be having a woman president. Many people believe that a woman wouldn't be able to take care of the whole country on her own, even if she has the same knowledge and ideas as a man. Women are often downgraded in certain situations, but their rights and equality in the country do still remain.

JFK

The JFK field trip gave me a better understanding of what we've been learning in class, and it was very helpful. I learned many things that I didn't know about Kennedy throughout the musuem such as the fact that he helped the mentally retarded. Kennedy had a mentally retarded sibling whom he continuously helped and supported. The mentally retarded were not treated good so Kennedy was emulated in society. Also, I learned how people would speak to the president. We listened to a recording of a telephone call between the president and a racist, and it was interesting how the man spoke to Kennedy. Kennedy wanted to pursue equal rights, and this man was against freedom rides and hope for African Americans, as he was stating it to the president on the phone. Lastly, I learned that JFK was very interested in sailing and won a sailing competition. There was a display with his competition trophy and many pictures of him and his brother in different sailing boats.
The most interesting part of the field trip was when we watched the movie about JFK's life in the auditorium. The movie explained JFK's life and background before we went around and looked at all his displays. It provided a life summary and I got to know him better rather than just what he did in his presidency. I learned a lot about his family, life, and accomplishments. After the movie, I felt like I knew him better as I looked at all of the displays.
The only suggestion to improve would be a shorter time in the classroom at the beginning. Most of the information was very interesting, but we could be doing the same things in the classroom at school. I think we should have cut time off from that time and walked around more to see displays and their importance.
I believe JFK made a lot of very good ideas that he wanted to succeed in. After he got assassinated, everyone believed that Kennedy would get all of his ideas accomplished, but he gets credit for things he didn't yet succeed in. I think if JFK survived, he would follow through and succeed in his plans, but no one knows if he would. JFK was a very intelligent man that already succeeded before his assassination, but Johnson ended up finishing his plans for him. If Kennedy survived, maybe his plans wouldn't have been pursued and discrimination would continue. I don't think he did enough to be considered one of the best presidents of all time, but if he survived I feel like he would be very successful.

At the end of The Butter Battle Book, the Yooks and the Zooks make an alliance to share the land and eliminate the wall. The bomb is never dropped because the Yooks and Zooks notice that it will only cause problems and harm people. They decide that both sides could have one big land instead of fighting against eachother. They then notice that it doesn't matter whether someone has their bread with the butter side down or up. Everyone will live in peace together and live happier ever after.
